The creation of my mushroom zine - April 2024
This was a project I had been thinking about starting for a while, once I finally got stuck in, I couldn't stop!
I began by researching mushrooms, looking at mushroom and fungi books and collecting other people's zines on various things to get an idea of what a zine is about and the layout.
I decided I wanted to have that hand-drawn element but add the text digitally (Though still hand-drawn) It was a good chance to test out my new scanner too.
I planned out the zine and sketched it all on layout paper first, then put it together to see how the pages would sit and where each design needed to go to correspond to the next page. I wanted a textbook/scrapbook feel to the design so I inserted torn-up notebook paper into the design for where the text would go. I added stamp-style images for the titles and the text, once the design was completed, I hand-wrote it all on my iPad with the pencil on Procreate app.
I edited the pages together to seem more seamless and worked out what side and way each design needed to be printed on to be bound together by staples correctly. It took a few attempts but I got there in the end!
